Winter Storm Delays - January 21 - 24, 2014
1/21/2014

Due to the present winter storm forecast, the start of classes has been delayed until Friday 1/24/2014. The move-in process has been extended through Thursday 1/23/2014.

  • The start of classes has been delayed until Friday 1/24/2014.
  • Move-in scheduled to begin at noon on Wednesday has been extended through Thursday 1/23/2014. Please take your time and be safe in your travels to campus.
  • Students that arrive early will be accommodated.
  • Early arrivals should contact the Residence Life staff.
  • Non-essential staff have a delay in reporting for work until noon on Wednesday 1/22/2014.
  • Food service is on a holiday schedule.
  • Thames Academy building is closed until further notice.
  • Thames students must contact Campus Safety for an escort to enter the building at any time.
  • Since the College business offices will be delayed in opening until noon on Wednesday, students are asked to use online payment processing to help expedite the process.
DELAYED OPENING, FRIDAY 3/8

Due to the winter storm, Mitchell College will delay opening for classes and staff until 10:30 AM today, March 8.

SCHOOL REOPENS & CLASSES RESUME TUESDAY 2/11

SCHOOL REMAINS CLOSED MONDAY: NO CLASSES
2/10/2013

Due to weather conditions, Mitchell College will remain closed and all classes are canceled on Monday, February 11. For safety reasons, all non-essential personnel must refrain from reporting to work. All offices will be CLOSED and, weather permitting, will reopen on Tuesday, 2/12.

SCHOOL CLOSED FRIDAY & SATURDAY: NO CLASSES

School closing: The National Weather Service has issued a warning indicating that a major winter storm is expected to impact the Northeast and New England Friday into Saturday. As a result, Mitchell College will be closed and all classes are cancelled Friday and Saturday (2/8 and 2/9). For safety reasons, all non-essential personnel must refrain from reporting to work. All offices will be CLOSED on Friday and, weather permitting, will reopen on Monday, 2/11.

A high wind warning has been issued for Southern Connecticut from 1:00PM today to 4:00AM Thursday.

This is a reminder that Mitchell Woods is closed until further notice.

Non-Binding Early Decision
Applicants are encouraged to apply to Mitchell College under the Non-Binding Early Decision program. The Early Decision deadline is November 15th for the following Fall Semester. There is no Early Decision option for the spring semester. All documents must be submitted to Admissions by November 15th. Incomplete applications after November 15th will be denied Early Decision status. Early Decision responses will be mailed around December 15th. Early Decision is extended to November 30th for applicants affected by Hurricane Sandy. SPRING REGISTRATION POSTPONED
11/1/2012

Registration for the Spring 2013 Term has been delayed one week.  Students that completed course requests may register with their Advisor starting November 12th.  All other students may register beginning November 26th.  Further details on registration will be released next week.

CLASSES CANCELLED THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

Classes are cancelled for Thursday, November 1st, and Friday November 2nd.  Classes are expected to resume on Monday, November 5th.  We encourage resident students to return this weekend if possible.  The Target Your Talent event at Mohegan Sun has been cancelled.  Additional updates will continue to be provided via Rave Alert and www.mitchell.edu.

STAFF & DINING ANNOUNCEMENT
10/30/2012

Classes are cancelled for Wednesday, October 31st, but staff will be returning to work at normal hours.  Please contact your supervisor regarding any issues involving returning to work.  Henry Hall staff should arrive in appropriate work attire for moving items back to Henry Hall.

Dining will resume in Clarke on Wednesday, October 31st at 11AM.

A decision regarding classes for Thursday and Friday will be made soon, and additional information will be provided shortly via Rave Alert and www.mitchell.edu.

TUESDAY MORNING UPDATE
10/30/2012

Classes are cancelled for Wednesday, October 31st, and we are still assessing damage to make a determination for Thursday and Friday.  We currently do not recommend that students return to campus a this time. Lower campus and the administrative buildings are closed while we continue to assess damage and clean up debris.  Mitchell Woods is closed.  Food Services will operate out of the Student Center until further notice.  Additional information will be provided shortly via Rave Alert and www.mitchell.edu.

HURRICANE SANDY UPDATE
10/30/2012

The worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed, and all of the residence halls have retained power.  Students are accounted for, and continuity of food service to the residence halls by our staff has been maintained.  Due to downed trees and debris from the storm, students are to remain in their dorms until further notice.  After better assessing damage to the campus, we will be providing additional updates via Rave alert and www.mitchell.edu.

MONDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE

Mitchell College has not lost power, and students are secure in their residence halls.  In fact, staff are ordering pizzas for all the students later this afternoon.
 
Although there are news reports of evacuations in New London, none of these impact the College.  We are confident that students are safely away from storm surge or flooding issues on the upper half of campus.
 
We will have another update later this evening after 10:30pm on the website and through our RAVE alert system.

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE
10/29/2012
All students are now secured on upper campus.  Residence life meetings were held during the day, evacuation of Thames and Waterfront are complete. Students have received safety information, and are aware of potential dangers.

All students on campus have received a food bag with breakfast food, sandwiches, snacks, fruit, water, soda, etc.  We have developed plans for food service continuity until the storm has passed.
 
An Emergency Operations Center has been established on campus with power generation to ensure communication throughout the storm.  Essential staff of the College are on campus and prepared to hand out additional supplies if needed.

CAMPUS CLOSED MONDAY AND TUESDAY
10/28/2012

Due to the impending storm, Mitchell College has decided to close the campus on Monday October 29 and Tuesday October 30th.  Due to the threat of flooding and wind damage, we are evacuating the Waterfront Residence Halls and Thames Academy and placing students in residence halls on Upper Campus away from the Thames River.  Students are welcome to return to their homes with families if they choose, or to stay at home if they are already at home.  We are prepared on campus to accommodate all students who remain on campus, and will continue to update the community regularly.

HURRICANE SANDY PREPARATION
10/28/2012
Mitchell College has been diligently planning for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
 
The Emergency Response Committee has been activated and has developed a comprehensive Incident Action Plan to ensure the safety of our campus community.
 
We have stocked emergency supplies, and our Food Services is preparing foods that require minimal cooking/preparation, as well as delivering boxed meals to students in the residence halls.
 
Outdoor furniture has been secured inside of buildings.
 
Students are receiving instructions about storm preparations.
 
We have ensured continuity of communications throughout the storm.  Please update your Rave Alert contact information if necessary at https://www.getrave.com/login/mitchell
 
We have identified rooms and locations on Upper Campus to accommodate the evacuation of the Waterfront Halls and Thames Academy.
 
All essential personnel have been notified, and many are remaining on-site throughout the storm to assist students and continue to plan and respond appropriately.
