Internships
 

Internships and service learning opportunities are some of the most valuable tools you will have at Mitchell—giving you the chance to assess how the knowledge and skills you have learned in the classroom will translate into hands-on, real-world jobs and volunteer programs. Internships are a test-run of the career you are planning to pursue. Service Learning gives you the opportunity to make a difference locally, nationally and globally by participating in community projects.

A requirement of nearly all majors, internships and service learning allow you to examine career options, build leadership skills, test your abilities, and contribute to the community. Mitchell students who choose to enter the job market after completing one of these programs find not only contact and employment opportunities, but in the long run, career and personal satisfaction.

Mitchell’s numerous partnerships with business and community leaders enable you to gain experiences such as:

• Campus voter registration and new voter education.
• Coastal exploration with a nationally-recognized scientist.
• Partnering with New London police or assisting in the County prosecutor’s office.
• Storytelling sessions for local school children.
• Serving meals and visiting with residents at a homeless shelter.
• Touring a busy Wall Street brokerage firm in New York City.
• Coaching developmentally challenged athletes, and teaching injury prevention.
• Studying productions at the Long Wharf & Yale Repertory theaters.
• Helping to shepherd a bill through the Connecticut State Legislature.
• Working on media campaigns at an advertising agency.
