ATTENTION STUDENTS:

You must request your Spring 2014 courses in your student portal no later than Friday, October 18. Two emails (10/3 & 10/9) were sent to all students with details regarding this process. This is phase one of the spring registration process… phase two will be scheduling of class in November with your advisor! Only students that complete course requests now qualify to register during week 1 of registration (Nov. 4-8).

SCHOOL REMAINS CLOSED MONDAY: NO CLASSES

Due to weather conditions, Mitchell College will remain closed and all classes are canceled on Monday, February 11For safety reasons, all non-essential personnel must refrain from reporting to work. All offices will be CLOSED and, weather permitting, will reopen on Tuesday, 2/12.

SCHOOL CLOSED FRIDAY & SATURDAY: NO CLASSES

School closing: The National Weather Service has issued a warning indicating that a major winter storm is expected to impact the Northeast and New England Friday into Saturday. As a result, Mitchell College will be closed and all classes are cancelled Friday and Saturday (2/8 and 2/9). For safety reasons, all non-essential personnel must refrain from reporting to work. All offices will be CLOSED on Friday and will reopen on Monday, 2/11.

Parking Ban
2/7/2013

With an impending winter storm, it is necessary to activate a Parking Ban on Upper Campus to allow for snow removal. This parking ban will be in effect from 9:00AM Friday February 8th until 6:00PM Saturday February 9th

There is NO PARKING in the following areas:

  • Along DeBiasi Drive,
  • Along the outer edges of the Commuter Parking Lot
  • The outer edges of the Michael’s Dairy Lot, and
  • Along the outer edge of the Waterfront Parking Lot

Parking IS ALLOWED in the following areas;

  • Saunders Parking Lot
  • Simpson Parking Lot
  • Matteson Parking Lot
  • The interior spaces in the Commuter Lot,
  • The interior spaces in the Michael’s Dairy Lot and
  • The Henry Hall Parking Lot nearest to Pequot Avenue. ***If you have to park in Henry Hall after dark or during the storm; Campus Safety will provide a ride back to Upper Campus. 
Winter Weather Cancellation

Sigma Alpha Pi Broadcast Speaker - Rescheduled for Nov. 13th

The Sigma Alpha Pi Broadcast for Hill Harper, which was cancelled last week due to Hurricane Sandy, is now available online for Sigma Alpha Pi members.

For those students who are not members, but would like to view the broadcast (or were required to for a class assignment) a viewing has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 13th in the Weller Center at 7 PM.

SPRING REGISTRATION POSTPONED
11/5/2012

Registration for the Spring 2013 Term has been delayed one week.

Students that completed course requests may register with their Advisor starting November 12th.

All other students may register beginning November 26th.

Further details on registration will be released next week.

Dining Hours

The Milner Dining Hall will be closed from dinner on August 3rd through lunch on August 15th.
Services will resume with dinner on August 15th
with the return of RAs.

After August 15th, the dining hall will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Last Day to Withdraw from Classes!
11/11/2011

Just a reminder to any student considering withdrawing from a class for the current (Fall 2011) term

TODAY (Friday, Nov. 11)    …is the deadline to do so!

After today, you will receive a grade for each class in which you are enrolled.   Requests for withdrawing from a class will not be considered after 5pm today.

If you do plan to withdraw from a class, you must complete a withdrawal form (attached word document).   The withdrawal form requires that you have 3 signatures:  yours, your instructor for the class you wish to drop & your advisor.   Once completed, the form is submitted to the Registrar’s Office (Duques Center 1st floor).   A grade of “W” is noted on your transcript for any withdrawn class; however, your credits and GPA are not impacted by a withdraw (W) grade.

NOTE:  There are 3 “ripple” areas that can be impacted by withdrawing from a class If you fall below 12 credits of attempted course work for the term!

  • If you live on campus… You need advanced permission to be in a part time class load to be a resident! Go to the Dean of Students (Clarke Center) office to discuss/petition for special status!
  • If you get any financial aid… You may not qualify for continued aid…  go speak with a counselor in Henry Hall!
  • If you play a varsity sport… You may not be eligible with the NCAA – go speak with someone in the Athletic Department (Yarnall Center)

College Opening Update

  • Non-Express Students arriving after 1:00PM will report directly to Henry Hall.

Express Students go directly to their Residence Halls.

Thames Academy Students:

The Thames Academy building is without power currently, and we expect that this will be the case until the end of the week.  We are planning on opening Thames for move in on Saturday morning, and the first day of classes will be on Monday. We will update families in the event that this changes, but it is our hope that we will be ready for move in on Saturday.

THAMES ACADEMY AND RETURNING MITCHELL STUDENTS:

DO NOT ARRIVE ON SUNDAY! Your NEW MOVE IN DAY is Wednesday!!

Check-in/Orientation programs will go on as scheduled tomorrow. Students arriving tomorrow are asked to do so as early as possible. Check-in begins at 9am. Some adjustments have been made to the Orientation schedule, given the forecasted high winds and rain for late Saturday night through Sunday. You will be notified of those schedule changes when you arrive.
 
If you choose to delay your arrival and stay at home during the storm, you are asked to wait and come to campus on Wednesday. We encourage you to check the College’s web site home page (www.mitchell.edu) for important updates and information. You are also automatically signed up to receive RAVE emergency alerts through your Mitchell College email address. However, if you would like to add a personal email, cell phone or other communication device, go to www.GETRAVE.com. Where it says ‘School’ put Mitchell College. Use the same Mitchell ID and password that you use for your Mitchell account.
 
If you do plan to arrive on campus tomorrow, before the storm, the College has prepared to have basic provisions for all resident students, in case of power outages. However, we do ask you to take extra precaution and bring the following with you as well:

  • Bottled water
  • Flashlight
  • Food items not requiring refrigeration (especially students with specific dietary needs)
  • Battery-powered radio and batteries
  • Two-weeks of required medication supply

If you have further questions or concerns, please call the Office of Student Affairs at 860-701-5093.

Spring 2011 Grades Are Now Posted Online

Check out your grades online now:

  1. Log into your Student Portal
  2. Click on the "Grades" page (under the "Students" heading)
  3. Your Final Grade is to the far right (under the heading "Final Aver"

You can also find your term cumulative credits and GPA by opening you transcript (under the "Students" heading).

Printed copies of your grade report will be mailed tomorrow (Tuesday, May 17th) to your listed "Permanent Address."

Fall 2011 Registration / Financial Aid Information

Registration will begin Monday April 4th.  See you advisor before the end of March to sign up for a registration appointment.  Also, in order to participate in registration, you will need to pay your $300 deposit for the 2011-2012 Academic Year by April 1st.

Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy Announced as 2011 Commencement Speaker

NEW LONDON, CT – March 14, 2011 – Mitchell College has announced that Connecticut State Governor Dannel P. Malloy will address the graduating class of 2011 at the College’s 67th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 14.

“We are truly honored to have Governor Malloy speak at graduation,” says President Mary Ellen Jukoski.  “He has such a deep and personal understanding of the challenges that many Mitchell College students who also have learning disabilities face on a daily basis.  His own story is incredibly inspiring and motivating.”

Governor Malloy’s political career includes 14 years as Mayor of Stamford.  His accomplishments include bringing new jobs to the city, leading the fight for more affordable housing, championing transportation efforts and seeing Stamford rated as the 9th most livable city in the country by Forbes Magazine.

Education, additionally, has always been at the forefront of Malloy’s efforts.  He served on the Board of Education in Stamford prior to taking office, and as Mayor, implemented the first city-wide pre-kindergarten program, which ensured that all four-year-olds could attend school regardless of their parents’ financial situation.

In childhood, Malloy struggled to overcome extensive learning and physical disabilities.  His parents made a point of focusing on their young son's strengths, which included oral learning and the spoken word, while finding him the best physical therapy and tutoring they could afford.

Malloy went on to receive his B.S. from Boston College in 1977 with a dual major of Political Science and Sociology.  He graduated Boston College Law School in 1980 and began his career as assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, NY from 1980 - 1984, winning 22 convictions in 23 felony cases.

Governor Malloy has served as a Trustee at Mitchell College.  His additional civic roles include acting as Trustee and Vice Chair for Education of the Jobs, Education & Workforce Committee on the United States Conference of Mayors; Co-Chair of Small Business/Partner America Task Force; Former President for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities; and adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut.  He and his wife Cathy consider Stamford their home, and have three grown sons.  

Mitchell College Commencement will be held on the College’s Great Lawn, where approximately 160 graduates are expected receive their degrees. Chair seating is available for ticket-holders only.
